I AM SINGAPOREAN

The below entry is inspired by Mr Brown's series of podcasts of I AM SINGAPOREAN. Felt injustice and unfair for MrBrown.

I am a 19yr old. I have a mixed parentage. My father is a Chinese and my mother is Thai.

I speak 3 languages: English, Mandarin and Thai. And over the years, I have learn to curse and swear in dialects which I find to be more effective.

I used to attend schools in Thailand but had since moved to Singapore with my family when I started K1. Once in a while, I will go back to Thailand to visit my auntie, who, took care of me when I was still a toddler because both my parents were busy with their business then. I grew up feeling lonely after I came to Singapore. Mainly because my folks were often overseas and I only have a half-sister in Thailand then. I grew up to be independent.

I have done my primary and secondary education here. It gives me a sense of belonging and, warmth which I seldom feel in my house. I love my school and my friends. In fact, school days are always my favorite part of life. I started working when I was 15, 16 as a waitress which I did not enjoy. I now earn my own allowance and pay for my own expenses.

I live in Singapore almost all my life but I would not remain here all my life thou I would love to. I remember that I used to get up early to Q for NDP tickets. Now u give me free i also dont want. Life is stressful and demanding here. I love the security here and am grateful to the fact that I am able to go home on my own without worrying about being kidnap, murder or rape. Thou as much as I like it here, I will want to migrate back to Thailand with my future husband when we retire.
